A member of the Confederation of African Football Executive Committee has challenged the continued tenure of General Secretary Vron Mosengo-Omba, claiming he is no longer holding the position in line with CAF regulations.Samir Sobha, president of the Mauritius Football Association, argued that Mosengo-Ombas mandate has expired and that he should step aside. According to CAFs employment regulations, the compulsory retirement age for staff is 63, with the possibility of a single three-year extension granted at the discretion of the president or general secretary.Mosengo-Omba, appointed in March 2021 at the age of 61, turned 63 in October 2022 and was granted a three-year extension by CAF president Patrice Motsepe, which ended in October 2025.As per the statutes, he is occupying the seat illegally right now, Sobha said, adding that decisions taken under the current circumstances risk lacking legitimacy.Motsepe, when asked about the issue following an executive committee meeting in Dar es Salaam, said CAF would address the matter in accordance with its rules and governance structures.Retirement is governed by our rules and regulations. We will take the best decision as CAF concerning employees, he stated.Sobha also used the opportunity to express concern about governance matters within the organisation and called for clarity to ensure institutional credibility. In a separate remark, he apologised to Morocco over what he described as an injustice during the recent Africa Cup of Nations final, which was marked by controversy following a disputed penalty decision.
